IPMA and Equatorial Guinea Ministry of Mines & Hydrocarbons Partner for Sub-Regional Petro-Mining Human Capital Development
In a major milestone for cross-border academic and technical collaboration, the International Petroleum and Mining Academy (IPMA) has established a strategic working partnership with the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons of Equatorial Guinea, represented by His Excellency Mr. Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima.
This landmark bilateral initiative focuses on equipping the youth of Equatorial Guinea with specialized expertise in Advanced Oil and Gas Refinery Technology as well as Corrosion Control and Prevention Technology for Oil and Petrochemical Industries.
Deploying Expert Training Technology Across Central Africa
Under this partnership framework, IPMA Cameroon, the developer of these specialized curriculum programs, will deploy highly qualified trainers from Cameroon to execute the instruction. The training will take place on-site at the National Technological Institute of Hydrocarbons of Equatorial Guinea (ITNHGE).
Spanning a duration of 24 months, the comprehensive technical program is scheduled to commence at the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
To finalize operational frameworks and exchange training technologies, Mr. Gembom Denis, President Director General of IPMA, held high-level executive discussions with Mr. Ramon Bibang, Director General of ITNHGE. Their dialogue focused on leveraging regional synergies to cultivate a resilient, highly skilled workforce capable of driving the sub-region’s oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors.

This sub-regional alliance centers on critical technical areas essential to modern refinery operations and industrial infrastructure maintenance:
- Advanced Oil and Gas Refinery Technology: Delivering cutting-edge instruction on processing, distillation, thermal cracking, and petrochemical refining operations.
- Corrosion Control and Prevention Technology: Equipping technicians and engineers with vital strategies to protect industrial assets, pipelines, and offshore platforms against environmental degradation and structural failure.
- Faculty and Technology Transfer: Facilitating the direct transfer of curriculum technology and academic methodologies between IPMA and ITNHGE.
- Sub-Regional Skill Standardization: Aligning competency frameworks between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea to support a unified, qualified energy workforce across Central Africa.
Building the Central Africa Regional Petro-Mining Engineering University Vision
This collaborative partnership goes beyond immediate technical training, serving as a powerful proof-of-concept for a larger vision: the establishment of a dedicated Central Africa Regional Petro-Mining Engineering University.
By pooling educational resources, technical expertise, and institutional capacities across national borders, IPMA and ITNHGE are setting a benchmark for South-South cooperation. Together, both institutions are empowering young Africans to take ownership of the continent’s rich natural resources through local technical excellence.
